Certain products give us a sense of nostalgia in a we’re-content-to-leave-it-in-the-past kind of way. Take Lime Cottage Cheese Jello Salad with Sour Cream Chili Sauce topped with shrimp, for instance. (And if this vintage 1970s luncheon favorite is still on your table, that’s your business.) Or the divisive Pineapple-and-Mayo sandwich. We can understand why not every vintage recipe is passed on to the next generation.

But there are other recipes, brands, and limited-time offerings that seem to disappear without a trace, however beloved. Read: the Chicken Salad Sandwich from Chick-fil-A or Tomato Soup Cake, both of which we’re hoping will make a dramatic comeback. And such was the case with Slice.

You may remember the popular tagline of this PepsiCo product first released in 1984: “We got the juice!” Slice, a soda made with real fruit juice, took the '80s beverage market by storm. It was originally produced to rival Sprite—Slice’s original flavor was a lemon-lime soda—but the fizzy sipper expanded its product line and enamored customers along the way. With ten percent real juice, the soda was perceived to be healthier than competitors. In the 2000s, however, it disappeared from shelves.

Now, Slice is back—and the soda has gotten an even healthier makeover.

In a press release issued in late January, Slice’s new owners, Suja Life, announced that the soda would be back in select stores—and reinvigorated with prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics. The new formula is not only functional, but still fizzy and delicious. Plus, it contains only five grams of sugar (an organic stevia-and-cane sugar blend) per can.

Slice 2.0 was launched in Orange, Lemon Lime, Classic Cola, and Grapefruit Spritz, and is now available at select Costco, Albertson's, and H-E-B locations across the country. Additionally, select Targets are selling an exclusive launch of Slice Strawberry, while Slice Grape can be found at all Albertson's divisions. (It really does taste like the vintage grape soda we know and love, y’all!)

“We're thrilled to usher in a new era for Slice, bringing this beloved brand back with a modern and exciting twist,” said Maria Stipp, CEO of Suja Life.

“Our mission at Suja Life is to revolutionize America's health through what we drink. While we know not everyone is reaching for a wellness shot, soda is a staple in nearly every American's refrigerator. By transforming this everyday beverage into a leveled-up version with benefits, we're making a significant impact on the health and well-being of our consumers.”

Slice retails for $2.49 for a 12-oz. can (plus sold in pricier 12-packs on the brand’s website for $35.99) but as was spotted by recent Costco shoppers in the Southeast, an eight-pack is now just $12.99 at our favorite big box store.

So far, fans have seen packs containing Slice Lemon Lime and Orange in the refrigerator section. The brand says that they are planning on rolling out their better-for-you sodas even more broadly this summer and fall.

Fans new and old have taken to social media upon Slice’s resurgence, even commenting that the soda tastes “just like [they] remember it.”

“Better than Squirt Soda,” one user said of Slice’s Lemon Lime flavor. “My parents were excited to see Slice Soda back in store.” Another added, “True nostalgia in a can.” And those who weren’t around in Slice’s early years are still impressed. “I never had Slice before today,” an Instagram user wrote. “Great soda and healthy! I wasn't even born when the brand was popular in the 1980s.”
